Meet Dr. Becky Jester
Education:
Dr. Becky Jester graduated in 2002 from Oregon State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Sciences with a pre-veterinary option. Shortly thereafter she graduated from the College of Veterinary Medicine at Oregon State University in 2005 with a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree.
Career path:
Dr. Jester pursued conventional veterinary practice for two years after graduating from vet school and it was during her second year that she received her acupuncture certification. In 2007 Dr. Jester attended the Medical Acupuncture for Veterinarians course held in Fort Collins, Colorado over a period of four months for a total of 140 hours of continuing education. Her acupuncture training was exactly what she was looking for as a way to treat patients from a more holistic approach!
After gaining some experience in the traditional veterinary field, Dr. Jester did pursue another very fascinating avenue of veterinary medicine for a period of six months; rehab therapy for pets! Dr. Jester learned some great stretching and massage techniques for the animals during this training period and was able to perform acupuncture on rehab patients.
Dr. Jester started Natural Healing Veterinary Acupuncture in December of 2007 for house call services and continued to treat patients at the rehab clinic from June 2008 to 2010.
Currently Dr. Jester offers house call acupuncture, holistic consults/therapies and geriatric/nutritional consulting services. She also utilizes whole food supplements from Standard Process (www.standardprocess.com) to complement her treatment protocols as well as a few homeopathic and western herbal remedies.
Dr. Jester is also enrolled in an extensive course in Western Veterinary Herbal Medicine so as her knowledge grows, so will her treatment recommendations for your companion!
Dr. Jester is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), the Portland Veterinary Medical Association (PVMA) and the Veterinary Botanical Medical Association (VBMA). Dr. Jester is licensed in the state of Oregon and Washington to practice veterinary medicine.
Family and Hobbies:
Dr. Jester lives in Tualatin, Oregon with her daughter Austynn and their animal family. Her companions consist of 1 dog (Tucker), 1 cat (Chai), 1 ball python (Mouse), and a saltwater fish tank! Dr. Jester enjoys spending time with Austynn and visiting family and friends. She also enjoys baking and cooking foods with organic ingredients and has a strong passion for nutrition as a basis for health (for both two and four-legged creatures). In her spare time, Dr. Jester enjoys yoga and taking hikes to appreciate the outdoors.
